I really enjoyed visiting the Gwen John exhibition at Modern Two in Edinburgh. I particularly liked her paintings and drawings of the nuns, especially the paintings, as when I looked closely I noticed areas where the paper showed through between the paint. I felt this made the works look soft and gentle and added to the calm, quiet atmosphere of her work. It also reminded me that artwork doesn’t always have to be highly detailed or perfect, and gave me permission to be more relaxed and accepting of the spaces and imperfections within my own work.
